Have a Skincare Routine That's Tried and True?

Already have a tried and true beauty routine, and want to see what else is out there? If you’re just looking for something to try Perfec-Tone to see if it’s right for you, we suggest trying our Exfoliating Cleanser.

The Importance of a Great Cleanser

Though it may seem trivial, regular skin cleansing is critical to maintaining healthy looking and feeling skin. Having clean skin is the building block for any and all other treatments you apply to your face. Here are some of the ways a great cleanser works for you.

Removing Build Up
An obvious benefit of facial cleansing is clearing your skin of dirt, oil, and other unwanted debris. Throughout the day, the skin on your face constantly comes into contact with bacteria, pollutants, dirt, and dead skin cells. Daily facial washing removes these impurities. Skipping washing means you go to bed with a layer of dirt and grime. Water alone removes only about 65% of oil and debris from the surface of the skin. It’s important to wash your face again in the morning to remove the dead skin cells that surfaced during the night.

Boosting Hydration
Every day skin ages and dehydrated skin looks even older and rougher. The very basic process of washing your face before bed is an excellent way to fight skin aging by stimulating the internal processes that fight aging. Research shows that skin undergoes changes overnight to repair itself. Sleeping with makeup on deprives it of this oxygen it needs to do so. Regular facial cleansing (combined with a good moisturizer) helps the skin stay hydrated. If you use night treatments, that layer of dirt prohibits your (sometimes expensive) night creams from penetrating the skin’s surface. If you’re not washing your face before applying moisturizer, the moisturizer can not work to its fullest potential.

Maintaining Clear Skin
Tiny glands under the skin produce oil called sebum to protect the skin from debris and pollutants. Sebum reaches the skin’s surface using hair follicles. This oil prevents the skin from absorbing dirt, bacteria, and debris. When excessive amounts of dirt builds up on the skin’s surface, it can block the follicle, trapping sebum, sweat, and dead skin cells. With no sebum reaching the skin’s surface because of the blocked follicle, bacteria begins to penetrate the follicle, causing inflammation. The final result is acne. Proper skin cleansing clears pores of grime, allows the sebum oil to reach the skin surface, and decreases breakouts. Regular cleansing will also help reduce the appearance of pores because pores will be clear of dirt and debris which makes them larger.

What Would Happen if You Stopped Washing

If you completely stopped washing your face, pores would become clogged and acne and inflammation would form. You could experience redness, dryness, and irritation from insufficient hydration. Skin would become dirty, oily, and greasy, and look significantly aged. If skin became itchy from dryness, scratching could lead to breaks of the skin where infection could form.

What makes a great cleanser?
Our gentle cleanser clears clogged pores and buffs away dull, dead cells. Using it is simple; just wet skin with warm water and lather into skin using circular motions on face and neck. Use with the Exfoliating Mitt to revitalize skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and refreshed. Simply wet buff to create a lather and massage onto face and neck. Rinse and pat dry. Exfoliating Cleanser is great for treating acne, blackheads, whiteheads, razor bumps, ingrown hairs, textured or rough skin, and enlarged pores. It works well with the entire Perfec-Tone line of products.

Dos and Don’ts of Cleansing

Do
Double cleanse. The first cleanse will remove make-up and surface impurities that act as a barrier. Your second cleanse will then penetrate deeper into the skin. We suggest following our Exfoliating Cleanser with Clarifying Gel to melt away remaining impurities in your pores.

Cleanse both morning and evening. The morning cleanse removes oil produced during sleep, as well as dead skin cells formed while skin repairs itself overnight. It also prepares skin so that its natural sebum production works properly. Evening cleansing removes make-up and dirt, improves hydration and ensures night treatments are absorbed properly.

If you suffer from breakouts or congestion, try leaving your cleanser on for a couple of minutes before removing to give your skin a deeper clean.

Follow your cleanse with treatment products and a moisturizer that meets your specific skin needs.

Don’t

Don’t use harsh cleansers that strip the skin of important natural oils.

Don’t use a bar of soap designed for the body to wash your face. Many contain harsh detergents and additives that can strip the skin of natural oils and cause breakouts.

Don’t wash your face with only water. Many of our customers say whenever they use a cleanser, it causes them to break out. That’s because they’re keeping their skin contained under thick layers of dead skin. When they start to cleanse, the cleanser starts to clean out their skin and bring impurities to the surface that have always been there.

Perfec-Tone is for all skin types, whether you are treating major issues, or have good skin and are just looking for a little extra glow.
