If you’re reading this, you are probably in your 30s (or on the verge of) and are feeling a bit anxious about your current skincare routine. From the memes on social media, this age can seem intimidating. However, there is nothing to fear. In fact, your 30s is a great milestone; representing growth, prosperity, and stability. Besides, we may have made so many mistakes in the past, that our 30s give us a new sense of wisdom, responsibility, and self.
During your 30s is when you will notice changes in your skin texture. Your skin may feel more sensitive, and be more prone to breakouts from stress and hormones. Due to the slower rate of skin regeneration, you may notice that your skin looks duller or feels rougher. As the skin ages, you may also notice that you are more susceptible to fine lines & wrinkles, dark circles, and dark spots. These changes are not the end of the world. These changes simply mean that you may need to make alterations to your current skincare routine and handle your new skin with grace.
Be gentle (and swap out the wipes!)
Your skin is more sensitive than it’s ever been before. Avoid harsh chemicals, exfoliating tools that irritate the skin. Makeup wipes were once a good option, however, the alcohol in wipes can feel too harsh and dry out the skin. Instead, invest in a hypoallergenic and oil-free makeup removing gel or lotion, like our Clarifying Gel.
Pay attention to the neck, chest & eyes
The neck, chest, and eyes have the thinnest layers of skin on the body. The skin begins to lose elasticity causing these areas to show the first signs of dullness, sagging, fine lines & wrinkles. We suggest that you focus on taking extra care of the neck, chest & eyes. Create a separate application of moisturizer (with collagen and SPF) to neck and chest. For the eyes, consider using a quality eye cream to wear at night.
Be picky with your foundation
This is not the time to wear just any makeup foundation! It is important to find the right, oil-free and lightweight foundation that does not clog your pores. If you find something that works, stick to it. Remember that your skin is more sensitive and will react to what it does not like.
Exfoliate regularly
Your cell metabolism will start to slow, which may cause more build-up of dead skin cells. Give your skin an extra hand by exfoliating. You can exfoliate with either buffer tools (gentle), scrubs or Retinol creams. For example, our retinol-infused Refining Creme and Resurfacing Creme is great for sloughing off dead skin cells for a healthier glow.
Have a day AND a night routine
At 30, your skin is more delicate and will need extra attention. This is a great time to plan out your unique skin regimen for daytime and nighttime. In the daytime, you should focus on more sun protection. In the nighttime, you may want to exfoliate and apply more moisturizing products. Our Revitalizing Serum is definitely a product worth adding to your routine. Containing Apple Stem Cells, this serum rejuvenates and nourishes your skin while you are asleep.
Get your full 8-hour rest
Speaking of sleep, please get lots of it! You may have more freedom in your 30s but this freedom never fails to show up the next day. If you are dehydrated or lack sleep, you may notice that your skin looks duller and feels dryer. The more your rest, the more time you give your body to regenerate and heal, giving you a vibrant and smooth complexion.
